Baby Zee is a healthy child with no medical issues.įor this paper, I will use Schon’s model of reflection on action to critically analyse knowledge gained and the impact on my future practice and significance of observation in social work practice. Before making arrangements to meet face to face, I spoke to her mother on the phone, drafted a consent form and letter from the university. I was introduced to Baby’s Zee’s family through a friend. Both baby Zee’s parents are from Ghana, West Africa. Language spoken at home is English and Twi (Ghanaian language). The ethnicity of which Baby Zee’s mother identified her as is British Black African. Baby Zee is of African descent but born in the United Kingdom. Her brothers range between the ages of 5-8years.

She is the last of four children and the only female child in the family. Baby Zee lives with both biological parents and three older siblings. For confidentiality reasons, l have chosen to a pseudonym as Baby Zee.

Initial observation took place on Thursday 2nd November 2017 between 11am to 12pm. For this paper, I observed a 12 month old child for an hour each week over a 6 weeks period using the Tavistock method of child observation.
